What is Reiki? CarpReikiCommunity at Carp Healing Circle (October 18, 2015)

Introduction to Reiki, and to CarpReikiCommunity:-
Thank you for coming to Share collective Energies today.
Last month, Katherine Willow introduced us to the simple truth about STRESS: STRESS can be a big challenge to our wellness, our balance. It can cause dis-ease. We need to develop a toolkit to help us
-to recognize stress and the symptoms of stress overload,
-to find skills that will allow us to correct the negative effects of stress
-to identify the causes of our stress and learn how to find a solution earlier rather than later
Today, I am here to talk to you about Energy and Energy Work and Reiki. Reiki is one tool in a Wellness toolkit.
{A word about me reading my message: I am more of a Writer than an off-the-cuff Speaker.
When I write, I sit down and let the ideas fall out of my fingers and onto the page.
Then I reread the message, with guidance from my Guides, with an eye to taking my ego out of the presentation.
This presentation is presented with an eye to inspiring and Energizing you. }

Let’s talk about Energy, first:
Some typical concepts about Energy:
Energy is all around us and it is within us.
Our body systems use and have energy. (Heart pulse, eyes using light rays, ears using sound waves)
We feel energized after a good sleep.
We feel energized after some meals while others make us feel completed deflated.
We use and harness energy from the sun, from the wind, from burning fossil fuels for heat, travel, to run our machines.
Every living thing possesses and utilizes energy. For instance, we humans get Energy from eating foods. Herbivores, omnivores, carnivores show us that this food energy can come from many sources.
Energy in unexpected places:
What if I said that non living things have an energy of their own…
-stones, crystals, pendulums, have you ever felt a tingle or sensed a grumble from non-living things?
-Can’t decide which stone or shirt to choose at Herbfest?…hold each in your hand and then the decision / answer jumps out at you.
-Walk into a room and feel a tingle of excitement, or a sense of foreboding…
-Situations and people where you ‘just got a feeling’
All are examples of Energy.
Energy in us:
We are Energy.
Deepak Chopra did much research into the most basic aspect of our bodies, organs, cells, nuclei…
the quantum level of reality isn’t a local and insignificant aspect of creation. It is all around us, and it is the most fundamental level of creation aside from the unified field itself. The human energy field is interacting and influencing the quantum field all around us at all times and the energy of our beliefs and intentions are infused into our energy field because they are defined by the energy of our thoughts and emotions.
Thus the fusion of our thoughts, emotions, beliefs, and intentions, which I will call the human energy field for simplicity’s sake, is perpetually informing the quantum reality within us and around us at each moment of our existence.

What is Energy?
Energy is all around us, inside us, created by us, used by us, shared amongst us…
-the ground we stand on
-the food we eat
-earth, air, fire, water
-sharing stories
Some people see Qi / Energy (colours, lights…)
-some feel it (like a grinding, throat-clearing, heat or cold)
-some hear tones or sighs or word messages…
Some people just know it is there … a presence.
Most important is to accept, as a leap of faith, that it is there. Let it happen, without fear, without doubt … Trust.

Some Exercises to experience Energy:
These exercises simply require a leap of faith, a trusting in our ability to tap into the Energy, an understanding that the Energy just IS…

First Exercise: Energy in the palms of your hands exercise:

What is Reiki? Hands
Some quotes from sources that I trust:
“Reiki is the laying-on-of-hands touch healing system of incomparable ease and power.”
Reiki is a part of every one of us. It was once universal and was never meant to be lost (sic or coveted or buried or denied). -Diane Stein
“Reiki is an old art of healing, A Way To Connect With The Life’s Supreme Energy
Is its most general definition, Reiki is the process of using life’s infinite energy source to bring out the best in you. With proper training and application, it can intensify your abilities, show you your true self, and allow you to improve your body and spirit.
Reiki opens the path towards total relaxation. It allows you to rest and keep your spirit still, even amidst the tumultuous world around you. It proposes a method to connect with the life’s supreme energy – the core of the Universal Life Energy that is free flowing, limitless, and enriching.
Reiki offers total healing of the body, the spirit, the mind, and the emotions. It initiates the feeling of security, peace, and wellness inside and out. It can improve your current state, as it has the power to heal both your physical and spiritual concerns. Maladies, illnesses, and diseases can be treated with Reiki in the same way that it can address depression, anxiety, stress, and panic.
This technique uses the Universal Life Energy to initiate healing from within. Its direct effects include reducing stress and promoting relaxation. It can also help a person get in touch with the inner self, which is essential for personal improvement (smcm: and healing).
Several religions and movements believe that the Universal Life Energy sustains this world. Reiki is one of those Energies. Reiki practitioners connect to this tremendous energy using symbols. After this connection is established, self-healing (occurs).”
The Reiki Principles:
“Just for today, I will give thanks for my many blessings.
Just for today, I will not worry.
Just for today, I will not be angry.
Just for today, I will do my work honestly.
Just for today, I will be kind to my neighbour and every living thing.”
-Mikao Usui
-Hawayo Takata
-Diane Stein added another sixth principle: “Respect the Oneness of All Life.”
SMCM- “We are all one.”

When it comes to Reiki: Accept … Trust.

Second exercise:
Circle of Energy guided exercise…

History and Stories of Reiki -details found in Stein’s book, “Essential Reiki”
-from first Buddha to Jesus to dormancy/restrictive access to Mikao Usui to Hawaya Takata to North America to Carp Reiki Healing Centre to Sylvia Melba Christie McGee to CarpReikiCommunity
-Hands-on healing came to Buddha (formerly Gabutama Siddhartha) from above, during a meditation. Though he and his followers actively pursued and applied it, hands-on healing was later considered a distraction from the basic principles of the Buddhist life and subsequent Buddhists set it aside and restricted access to it
-Mikao Usui set out to discover the details of Jesus Christ’s laying-on-of-hands healing methods. During a 21 day fasting meditation, he was struck as if by a bolt of lightning in his
Third Eye chakra. Passed out, he witnessed the power and colours of Reiki, the Reiki symbols and meaning of each. He suddenly knew the healing abilities of Buddha and
Jesus and Reiki. It was a psychic rediscovery of an ancient method.
He experienced the Four Miracles:
-stubbing his toe and laying on his hands to heal it;
-he asked for a full meal to end his 21 day fast and yet suffered no ill effects in
his digestive system;
-he healed a womyn of her toothache by laying his hands on the sides of her
-upon returning to his monastery he learned that the director was stricken,
bedridden with arthritis attack and he healed the director with laying on of hands.
-Usui named the healing Energy Reiki which means universal life force energy
-Usui worked healing in the slums, charging those healed to start a new life out in the
world. But they kept returning because they did not want to go to work to support
themselves. Usui left.
(This story is used to justify the North American habit of charging high prices for Reiki
so the recipients would respect Reiki.)
(Buddhists use this story to remind us that the only healing is spiritual healing and it depends on entering the Path to Enlightenment)
-Usui took Reiki throughout Japan…he met Chujiro Hayashi who received his Reiki Masters training from Usui …who trained Hawayo Takata who returned to her Hawaiian birthplace.
-as Hayashi predicted, WW II in Japan saw a targeted destruction of all Reiki practice.
Luckily Takata was already established in Hawaii as a massage therapist so she could
continue the work of sharing Reiki with the world.

My Reiki History (or Why I am Drawn to Reiki);
Working a high-energy and high-stress-in-others job as a grade 7&8 teacher, serving my school kids and my home kids and family and home and community…I was beginning to fail…my health Issues escalating no matter what my research turned up as helpful technique.
Our daughter found out about something called Reiki. There was a centre in Carp. We talked and decided that she would begin first, getting her Level 1 and then 2, and participate in the regular Shares at the Centre. Then I received my Level 1 then Level 2 training. Together we attended and received Level 3 training.
When we heard that Level 3 was not going to be considered Master’s Level, our daughter attended the Masters training, and then she trained / attuned me through my Master’s Level.
Participating at the Canadian Reiki Healing Centre here in Carp – the Energy and power of the collective, of community, of sharing, of giving.
-Meeting my Reiki Guides
-Sharing Reiki with the Universe and using Reiki for the Greater Good
-Therapeutic Touch training and practice
And then I used Reiki, learned where I could apply it to do the Greater Good, gave various Level trainings, shared Reiki to help others feel better and pain free, gave myself regular Reiki treatments, sometimes completely ignored it for a long period and then it would call me back.
Now, the idea of a CarpReikiCommunity has settled on me.

Reiki Stories:
What is Healing?
Most recently, I have been plagued with a very red left eye, I mean VERY RED.
A physical response sent me to eye drops. Then I graduated to bathing the eye with milk. There was a great need in me to present myself to Reiki curious here today in physical perfection and as the embodiment of Reiki healing…in a physical shaming vs bragging ego sort of way. I was panicking and then came an epiphany:
While I was giving myself a morning Reiki treatment, I asked my eye what I was supposed to see, to look at because of this eye thing. And the third eye chakra spoke to me, quoting my own blog
Wellness is a balanced three legged stool.
The legs of that stool are
-physical health (diet, exercise and movement…),
-mental / emotional / intellectual health,
-and spiritual health.
To study only one (for instance diet or physical health…) is to take away the balance and tip over that Wellness Stool
Negative thinking is a mental health issue that also knocks over the Wellness Stool.
And so, I came to the conclusion that you perhaps came here today to hear about Reiki at work in day to day life, and its potential in your life.
My eye? Physical: I will continue the homeopathic drops for another couple of days, the milk baths whenever the eye is irritated. I will seek professional opinion on causes of such redness.
Spiritual: I will continue to ask my third eye what I need to know, and to place my Reiki palms over my left eye in particular whenever it tells me it wants to speak with me.
Mental/emotional: I will be on guard for any idea that physical perfection is the sole indicator of health and wellness.

My daughter and I studied Reiki together; we practiced on each other, had deep discussions about the intricacies and wonders of Reiki.
When I was first diagnosed with cancer, my daughter was not geographically present to give me Reiki when she left for school. She had attuned the dog and cat. After a devastating surgery, my recovery was going to take time. The cat was not a snuggle cat, but she would hop up onto my lap, settle there and gently reach her paw up over the 10″ incision and fall asleep. The dog would come and touch her nose to my chakras then lie across my feet.
My complete and utter exhaustion, my panic, my rantings at Spirit about ‘why me’ subsided and I recovered to be better than ever.

Reiki opens our eyes to Energy and possibilities that surround us and are within us. We are Energized to find answers to heal physical dis-ease, to find new attitudes toward ourselves and our bodies and others, to reconnect with Spirit which is our compass to Wellness.
No matter who applies the Reiki, the receiver is the one who accepts the Leap of Faith and heals themselves.

Reiki continues to evolve and spread throughout the world. “The origins of Reiki need to be honoured, while at the same time respecting the changing world and the changing needs of people and the Earth.” (Stein)
(Beware of the idea that respect for Reiki can only be based on prices / moneys paid, as a North American way of life dictates.
Me? I believe that a person simply has to want it enough to seek it, demonstrate their commitment to the principles. The cost is a sharing of energy…something to be determined by teacher/student in specific interaction.
As my student, you will be charged… to go out and freely share Reiki with the Universe.)

Third exercise: Applying Energy – Infinity Energy / Adrenals help :

Introduction to Chakras: Energizing, Balancing, Grounding our Energies:
We use chakras concept in Reiki, accepting that Energies enter our Crown and passes down chakra to chakra through the body and beyond into the ground.
(Vishwam Reiki Swetha Anand)
Seven energy centers
1. Root Chakra
The root chakra at the base of your spine is responsible for your grounding and survival in the world. Visualize colour red.
2. Sacral Chakra
This centre located a few inches below the navel is associated with sexuality, reproduction and creativity. Visualize colour orange
3. Solar Plexus Chakra
The solar plexus chakra is your centre of willpower and self-esteem. Visualize colour yellow.
4. Heart Chakra
The heart chakra is the centre of unconditional Love and compassion. Visualize green.
5. Throat Chakra
The throat chakra is the centre of honestly expressing yourself. Visualize blue.
6. Third Eye Chakra
This centre houses your intuition or sixth sense. Represented by the colour indigo.
7. Crown Chakra
The crown chakra is your connection with the Divine or your Higher Self. Keeping this pathway clean and clear is essential. Violet in colour.

Balancing and Grounding Exercise:
Lift Qi up and pour Qi down. (modified from Chilel Qi Gung)

Hans Selye told us that Stress is important in our lives: it strengthens us and teaches us and helps to lift us from the mundane.
In today’s over-Energized world, we have allowed too many and dark Energies to cling to us, and this is what causes dis-ease in us.
From this I
have taken the practice of encouraging the ego to learn and strengthen the physical body from stress’ lessons,
have learned to examine the effect of ego and the lesson on my mental / emotional wellness
have strengthened my connection to spiritual wellness by using Reiki. (Wellness and the 3 legged stool)

Food Exercise:
Using foods to Energize us: Best Foods to Energize us; Best Foods to Ground us; Foods that Unbalance us:

Energizing foods: Vishwam Reiki – Swetha Anand
Foods that energize Chakras :
When it comes to these seven energy centres, most of us don’t realize that our food choices can impact them. A balanced diet can make for balanced chakras. From the root to the crown, here are some of the best chakra foods.
1. Root Chakra
Energize your root centre than by eating root vegetables?
2. Sacral Chakra
Fruits, nuts and honey will stimulate this centre and keep it healthy.
3. Solar Plexus Chakra
Keep this area strong by eating grains and dairy.
4. Heart Chakra
If you want an energetic heart chakra, remember to eat your greens.
5. Throat Chakra
The throat chakra loves to be bathed by liquids so make sure you have an adequate intake of fluids every day. Fruits also work well to energize this chakra. Lemons and limes are excellent for clearing out stuck energy in this chakra.
6. Third Eye Chakra
Eating bluish or purple foods will help this centre gain clarity and focus.
7. Crown Chakra
Violet in colour, purple foods can assist, just as with the third eye chakra. Yet the vibrations of this chakra often prefer no food at all.
To maintain and energize your crown chakra, consider doing a detox or fast, giving your body a slight break from food can help it rest and regenerate. Just eating light meals for a day. Add plenty of water to your routine and you will energize you crown in no time!
Walking in morning sun, walking in rain, on beach sand, grass also energizes crown Chakra.

Grounding foods:
Healthy Fall Foods That Ground You
Your attention span is non-existent, your mind is wandering relentlessly, and you can’t quite feel the earth beneath your feet. The summer is nearly over and for many it’s time to buckle down, get focused and start fresh for fall. Yet, that “spacey” summer feeling might be lingering, making it impossible to concentrate.
Traditional Chinese medicine believes that each food has a unique energy that affects your body a certain way. This goes beyond the calories, macronutrients and micronutrients of food. We’re talking about the energetic influence of food on the quality of your life—your mood, your awareness, your energy levels, your health and beyond.
These grounding foods will help restore balance to your life and land your feet firmly on the ground.
Roots veggies: beets, carrots, turnips, radishes, ginger, and garlic. All of these veggies have roots that reach down into the ground. The roots of a plant are its anchor; the foundation of life. Adding these foods into your diet can help you become more rooted and grounded in your life as well.
Quality proteins: Eggs, nuts, and meats offer a grounding energy to the body. They can also help stabilize blood sugar, which balances the body and mind.
However, it’s important to make sure that your proteins originate from an environment of positive and healthy energy.
-grounding, centring, chakra system, root chakra

Conclusions and take-aways:
Go out and freely share Reiki with the Universe.
“Don’t be afraid. You needn’t slay the beast or scale the entire mountain. That’s not how it’s done. You only need to move through today.
Think of the distance you’ve already covered. Focus on your strengths. Let each new step remind you of your freedom. Let your every breath remind you of your power. Seek out friends and guides; they’re anxious to help.
You’re not alone. You’re understood. This road has been walked before. Dance life’s dance, just a few steps at a time, and in the wink of an eye you will wonder to yourself, “What beast, what mountain? Was I having a dream?”
Love you,
The Universe”. Today’s message from Tut, the Universe
