Outreach, Reiki and Mesothelioma Patients

Outreach January 2017:                                                                                                    Sylvia,
Thank you for getting back to me. My name is Virgil Anderson (Williamson, West Virginia). I came across your website and thought you might be interested in my message.
I was recently diagnosed with mesothelioma, which is a cancer caused by exposure to asbestos.
Recently, I have been learning about the healing benefits of reiki therapy for cancer patients. As you know reiki is known to help people relax and reduce negative emotions like fear, stress, and anxiety. Patients using reiki while undergoing biopsies to determine if they had cancer experienced significantly less stress, pain and fear during and after the procedure.
In my fight against cancer, I have been helped greatly by the Patient Advocates at They have helped me tremendously through this tough time and I don’t know where I would be without them.
They actually posted an article that discusses more about the benefits of reiki for cancer patients here:
Would you be so kind as to share a link to that article on your website or perhaps allow me to write a guest article?

I feel it is my duty to give back to the community–to inform people with asbestos diseases of all the different options for post-therapy treatment and wellness.
I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you!
The Benefits of Reiki for Mesothelioma Patients by Virgil Anderson 01-’17
If a survey were taken on what was most feared in the United States, chances are that seven out of 10 people would say cancer. This response isn’t surprising, as this disease has caused more deaths worldwide than anything else. Cancer is the primary cause of death in Australia and the second most common cause of death in the United States, but recent developments in science have made chances of changing these figures considerably greater.

Medical technology is now so advanced that many forms of cancer are detectable in the initial stages of infection, enabling prompt treatment and dramatically increasing rates of survival. In fact, over just the past 20 years, the survival rate for most forms of cancer has been said to have risen nearly 30 percent and more than 50 percent of cancer patients are now surviving longer than five years after their initial diagnosis.

Science has shown that both the mind and the body are intimately connected and must work in harmony with each other in order to fight disease. Patients that are more likely to recover from their illness most often do so because their brain releases certain biological chemicals that assist in fighting sickness. Currently, the Australian medical profession leads the world in the study of the unique connection between the mind and the body and how it can benefit our health. Therapy focusing on this connection is known as mind-body therapy and is now commonly utilized as part of whole person care.

Mind body therapy is used to maintain the balance between the mind and the soul and helps to promote healing in the physical, mental and spiritual elements of the patient. Research has indicated that the use of mind-body therapy can help to enhance the quality of life for those suffering from a terminal illness, such as mesothelioma. Ways that mind body therapy can help include a reduction in the side effects of chemotherapy, a lessening of pain and a reduction of anxiety and stress. There are multiple types of therapies that treat both the mind and the body, including meditation, yoga, tai chi and reiki.

Reiki is one of the most common mind-body therapies used to treat those suffering from mesothelioma. It is a non invasive therapy that works by passing energy from the practitioner into the patient to aid in the patient’s healing. Practitioners of this therapy access the infinite healing energy of the universe and transfer it into their patient by holding their hands above different regions of the body, primarily the seven chakras, or energy centers of the body. No special equipment is necessary for this therapy, and it can be performed while standing, sitting or lying down. Nearly everyone who tries this form of therapy has said that it helped to relieve fear, anxiety and tension. After treatment, the patient nearly always feels relaxed and at peace. The multiple health benefits that have been found to come from this therapy makes it ideal for those suffering from chronic illnesses.
